What are Financial Statements?

The financial reports or statements show how a business performed over a period, its cashflows, what it owns and owes.They are used to provide useful information to the business managers, owners and external parties.They should be understood and make a great starting point for business strategy discussions if produced in a timely fashion.

The preparation of such documents can be simple or complex depending on the size and type of the business and the purpose of the report. For example, some statements require legal disclosures in the footer while others can be presented as is.
